Have you considered adding an "edit" function, which is ubiquitous on other forums?
The option to edit one's writing could substantially improve the quality of forum posts. Good writers habitually go through several rounds of edits before they are reasonably satisfied. Considering the relatively high flown character of the subject matter being discussed, and the tendency to slip into a conversational tone - writing quickly on a forum, has as its consequence, a less than satisfactory usage of language, and a less than satisfactory quality of argumentation.
This edit function is perhaps necessary if the final product is to be satisfactory - if we want to locate the golden mean between articulate expression and an informal style of writing. Moreover, there will be occasions when we need to expunge careless mistakes or remove statements that are really quite objectionable.
