Dear all,
It appears that many historians do nothing on research, they just quote from misleading sources provided from fabricated materials as found in the following Chinese Journal on Historical Research.
http://wenku.baidu.com/view/851a558acc22bcd126ff0cf0.html
In page 5 of the above Chinese Journal, it mentions as found from the possible fabricated source as :
[ De Ursis calculated the longitude of Peking by means of a comparative study of lunar eclipses visible not only in China but also in India and Europe. De Pantoja determined the latitude of the principal cities, Canton and Peking ]
note 5 mentions that the source is quoted from page 100 of the Chinese version which is translated from
http://www.amazon.com/Generation-Of-Giants-Jesuits-Decades/dp/142544427X#reader_142544427X
I checked the Chinese version but found no original source is quoted. It appears that the English version found in amazon website also does not quote the orignal source.
I searched from internet for the possible source and found the following earlier book from internet which mentions these information but also it does not mention where the materials are quoted.
http://archive.org/stream/TheHistoryOfAstronomy/Abetti-TheHistoryOfAstronomy#page/n77/mode/2up
What is the longitude of Peking calculated by De Ursis ? Are there any records on the latitude of the principle cities determined by De Pantoja ?
Therefore I beleive that some of the Jesuits tried to include fabricated materials in any possible channels so as to mislead the public on the historical facts.
Historical research should be loyal to the facts, no bias to any political party or any religion. Therefore scholars should try to trace the original source before publishing their articles or state that the sources they quoted need to be verified. Please do not force the public to accept the fabricated sources.
If any one of you do not agree with me, just mention the orginal sources and the data that De Ursis calculated and De Pantoja determined.
Regards,
Mr Lam Yee Din
