Could you please tell me (and others) the day of his birth? I would like to add it to a calendar that I am preparing. Thanks for considering my request.

Yes, Zheng He (1371-1433?). His real death is still a mystery.

Dr. Lee:

I was still hoping to get the date of his birth, if anyone knows, no different than a date agreed upon by academics to celebrate the birth of Lao-tzu and Confucius. If they were ~2500 years ago, and their birth dates have been established (agreed upon), then a date for Zheng He should not be so difficult (only 740 years ago), especially since he was employed all his life in service of the Chinese Court.

If that is too difficult, and in the alternative, then what is the most accepted date for the rediscovery of North America by the Chinese, according to your best conclusion, based on various other authours?

I think Chinese always had knowledge about the American continent pre-Ming, but not until ZhengHe that the continent is thouroughly mapped.

There is only one unofficial source that says he was born on the 30th day of the 6th month (lunar calendar) of 1371. How reliable is anybody's guess. He was born in the remote Yunnan area to a Muslim family during the war. So, records were not really kept accurately.

I 'd say use president Lincoln's birthday the First of February, that's how my dad gave it to me as important papers like birth certificates and all was lost when the war approached and he was killed shortly after by American bombs.
