My Hakka friend's surname is NGAN.
I translate it in Hanyu Pinyin as WEI4 (é°)
Wei for Wei Dynasty (é°’© 220AD to 265AD)
established by Cao Pi (‘‚˜¡), son of Cao Cao (‘‚‘€).
