 surname Hiong (in Mandarin XIANG (向)

I am a hakka currently in aus. My grandpa is from sabah and i think we speak huiyang hakka. Can anyone giv me some history on my surname Hiong 向 and also why there are so few people with this surname. My family and i are the only Hiongs in western australia.
