Hello,
My name is Audrey and I’m writing a book. One of the stories in my book takes place during the Taiping Rebellion. It’s from the point of view of a woman soldier in the Taiping army. However, I’m having a really hard time finding information (especially in English, my Chinese isn’t good enough yet to read technical sources and I don’t know Hakka). I was wondering if anybody knew the answer to these questions or could point me in the direction of somebody who did.
1. What are some Hakka names? (Especially women’s names).
2. Where can I find a very basic overview of the type of food eaten/houses made/cooking implements used/types of beds/farming instruments for Hakka in the Guangdong region in the 1850s?
3. My novel is mostly about women in the Taiping army. I’m having an incredibly difficult time finding information about that. Does anybody have any English sources about army organization/food/discipline/training, especially for the women?
Thank you so much! I’m so grateful for your help!
