 tracing my roots
Author: yanny

Does anyone here know of this family? I think they are originally from 长沙黄洞村 in Moi yan.

俞火荣
俞火荣's daughter 俞璟英 劉佑盛 (son in law)
俞火荣's daughter 俞绸英
俞火荣's sons:
俞绍权 => his daughter is 俞碧云
俞绍宏
俞绍梅

I am the great grand daughter of 俞璟英 and 劉佑盛. Thus, above people may not be alive but any info on them would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi Yanny,

Last month, I went to Dongguan county to trace my ancestral root in a village named Kuanjingtou. With limited information our van driver that we hired managed to lead us to a town called Fenggang where we saw the direction to my ancestral village. By asking a few people there we got to meet up with my granduncle's grand-daughter and her children.

Do you intend to visit your ancestral village in Moi Yan? If you have no idea where it is, maybe I can ask my friend's cousin brother in Chapi village, Meixian (Moiyan) whether he knows your ancestral village.

In fact, my friend met his cousin brother unintentionally 2 years ago when he and his wife took a tour round Chapi village which he knew is his ancestral village. Last month we also followed my friend to Chapi village before going to Dongguan.

Regards.

Dear Yen Loong,

Welcome back to Hakka Forum. It is nice to see your post again.
Fenggang (鳳港) is my village. There is another village called
龍港 (龍港) which is a twice village of Fenggang. The two villages
were nicknamed 龍鳳港. Long represent the Emperor (龍) and Feng
the phoenix (鳳).

The name of this song is called 茶葉青 which was a banned song in Malaya
by the British Colonial Authorities who branded it a Communist song.

The Hakkas in Dongguan were the followers of the Song Dynasty
(宋朝 960AD to 129AD).

After the Mongolian had captured Wen Tianxiang (文天祥), the Song Prime
Minister
and the boy Emperor was drowned the Song Dynasty collapsed. The Song folloers,
our ancestors did not go back to the north but settled in Dongguan county
(東莞縣).

BTW the link of the Malayan Emergency (1948 to 1960) you sent me is very
interesting. I sent a copy to Julie and Dr SL Lee (The Administrator of
asiawind.com). Dr Lee said that it is a very important document. Is it copy
right by the author? I was grown up under such an environment in Pusing.
Thank you for the link.

Dear Yoon-ngan,

I am glad that you find the article on Malayan Emergency interesting. I am not sure if the author copyrighted his work as it was sent to me by another friend.

I am in the process of organising my photos taken during my China trip. When it is ready I will send you a pictorial account of my visit to the Hakka world.

Regards.

Hi Lean Yen,
Thanks for the information. I know my ancestral village in Moi Yan, we have some family there and go from time to time. However, my grandpa was adopted and we have no idea where he was adopted from. All he was told was it's a small village near Moi Yan. Family members who are still alive in Moi Yan do not have any idea either.
We were hoping maybe other people would know but chances are very slim.

I am wondering if you might have any leads for me as well. I am from Jamaica and my family are Hakka. My grandfather Wilson Chang Guo Chun migrated from our ancestral village, Liang Pie Wee (not sure of the english spelling nor do I know the chinese characters), in Guangdong Province. I have hunted all over the the internet to locate this village and I would like to visit it as my father did (twice), before he passed without providing the location. Any leads, area maps or contacts would be greatly appreciated.

Here is some more information I have been able to garner: my ancestral village, Liang Pai Wee (嶺排圍) is in the town of Foong Gong (鳳岡墟), in the county of Doong Gon (東莞縣), in the province of Guang Doong (廣東). Liang Pai Wee would be close to Feng Gong & Tian Xin Wee. I am hoping to get there from Hong Kong this fall, so if anyone can provide any suggestions about transport, how to find a guide or accommodations, I would certainly appreciate any information.

With Google, you have to combine the words to Lingpaiwei.
Search Google Maps for 中国廣東省深圳寶安區嶺排圍
alternately,
http://maps.google.com/maps/place?hl=en&biw=1648&bih=878&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=fenggang,+Guangdong,+china&fb=1&gl=us&hq=fenggang,&hnear=0x315285f132af5c3f:0x2ed41c6f09259f29,Guangdong,+China&cid=12591930616636480804

Now all I have to do is locate a relative from the village to meet me at the border with Hong Kong.

Hi Mark,

If you have relatives in your ancestral village, you will have no problem at all. But if you really need a guide to bring you to the village, I can recommend you the guide who ferried us to our ancestral villages. He is a very patient man and is very familiar with places in Guangdong, especially Dongguan and its vicinity.
