It was about 10 years ago when I discovered Asiawind. There were 2 other posters as well as Dr. Lee. I wrote to ask Dr. Lee if Asiawind was going to be a stable place to post as I had been banned from websites in USA because of my antiwar postings as well as my exposure of the USA legal systems corruption.

Bill Clinton was President and I coined the nick for him of "Slick Willy" - He actually expressed a dislike for the nickname on a TV interview after Bush was elected. By that time I had seen what a really bad president was like and dropped the nickname like a hot potato. http://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&q=bill+clinton+slick+willy&btnG=Google+Search

At that time, I was the least educated of the posters and Dr. Lee's advice was for me to check my spelling more often. Obviously I have invested in a spellchecker. :)

A Happy New Year, and a thank you, to Dr. Lee and all the posters in the world that help keep the worlds eyes open and watching.

As an independent and not for profit all volunteer group, I am sure that we are having an effect not only on the worlds actions but on how the world sees China.

China and the Chinese have tolerated much to get to this point. The ancestors as well as the children all deserve only the best that we can give.

SL Lee,

I have come over the years to see you as a man of moral conviction, one from whom we can learn a great deal from. This forum remains an excellent platform for the sharing of thoughts amongst overseas Chinese, and many here provide an exceptionally valuable window into the Chinese world. ...

ODE TO THE ASIAWIND FORUM

Most of the AW frequent visitors/forum contributors have been the most independent Chinese thinkers that I run across through the whole wide world. (And I have been traveling most of the globe, mind you, including Antarctica Greenland as part of our cold weather testing for our products)

I’m impressed by their solid and well-rounded scholar education, even though most of them specialize HIGHLY in their own fields. This hard-earned pool of diversified knowledge allows them to observe the world with sharp and analytical eyes, to collect the vast and RELEVANT facts/data from which to draw out the most enlightening lessons and principles for a better and more humane world.

These people have the most diversified exposure to the different parts of the world, East and West, North and South, rich and poor regions, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, they acquire the global vision to formulate their theories/conclusions in a progressive way, for the continuous advance thinking forward, to a dynamic human world, AND the ever changing natural world.

By virtual of not being politicians – whose penchant is to gain political power and to enrich themselves at the expenses of their own fellow countrymen -, they speak their minds selflessly, objectively, courageously, passionately about the world issues that they care deeply. They never shy away from the ugly aspects of their most cared subjects/issues and never wobble in their principles of standing up for JUSTICE FOR ALL. This is the hallmark of the learned human beings.

These people have the genuine human feelings - my personal bias -, as natural and pure as the air we breathe in oceans, toward their human roots, their ancestors’ homeland - the cradle of the most brilliant civilization in the whole wide world -, the nest of love, the source of pride, the depth of immortal culture, the powerful sense of belonging of souls, in shorts, the very characteristics that distinguish human beings from ALL other living creatures in the world. The source of their inspiration is: our beloved ZhongGuo.

Lastly, and most graciously, these people are able to come together because they happen to meet in a convergent cyberspace, a unique forum that is made possible ONLY because of a visionary man, well-learned, well-meaning, fair-minded, global-visionary, ideas-inspiring, forgiving and tolerant toward malicious detractors, a Chinese JunZi with a big heart, the founding, tireless devoting and committing to good cause: Dr. SL. Lee!

May more Chinese people from all over the world raise their voices in the Asiawind Spirit, in the new Chinese Era of the 21st Century!

The Asiawind forum is one of the most open-minded forums dealing with issues that are of fundamental importance to the history and the future of the Chinese people. It has permitted the strongest views for or against any issue to be expressed, without any censorship. It is only when forumites engage in the use of expletives and outright insults that the moderators have come in to cut out the crap. We need this kind of a forum to engage opposing ideas in fair contest with the outcome to be decided by truth and reason. We congratulate the admin and the moderators for their objectivity in permitting all sides to be represented, even those to which they object, while curtailing the senseless denunciations of the leaders of countries whose policies a few may disagree with. By so doing, this forum continues to be able to explore the nuances of issues that if solved rationally, would save millions of lives, and ensure the prosperity of many millions more.

Congratulations on a job well done! They also serve who talk and write -- about the things too serious to really fight about.

Believe or not, I have found out about this forum is not only entertaining and education but it has also enhanced our way to share and to communicate. I value the many participants in this forum that are from a diverse world region, many of us similar heritage and cultural backgrounds, others we may have some commonality in part and others in whole.

What can be a better pass time that to share our views, our ideas and our beliefs and yet democratically allowing others to have their input, they may add to your ideas or "enlighten" you to see it from their view and that alone stimulates the needed research and come back to the forum to share, to confirm or to be affirmed.

I am taking this time to thank the forum management and the owners of Asiawind. I know it is not easy to monitor and to gauge the diversity of participants, with different age, different professional pursuit and some are using this to vent out , others would like to share or to be listen to- the educational vehicle are tremendous and it is most "democratic". There is no age, not unless one wants to review and most important of it all, just our time and it is "free".

We all know it is an effort to block "spammers" and to spot intruders that are just delinquent or wnat to be "destructive" and it cost both time and money to do what you do.

But I just want you to know that , many of us have enjoyed the kind of information sharing - even a bit of the bashing or venting is part of the human health- for as long it is not with "malice".

Let us share our difference and diverse ideas and may this wind from Asia and the values of the Asian continue to flourish in this forum. Ideas and thinkings are all free..and thanks to Asianwind to become the catalyst to let ideas flow and thinkings shared.

Asiawind has got our sails all furled and agoing. The destination is the shore of greater peace and prosperity for Asia and the world. Rains of spammers and waves of provocateurs have tried to stop this Mayflower from rediscovering the Lost Horizon of moral reciprocity -- to no avail.

The ideas and debates of this forum have helped resolve misunderstandings and misgivings without sacrificing a single innocent life or hurting a single child. Thought-warriors many here are, and they have served all sides well, by volunteering their time and their knowledge, to face each other in fair debate, in order that their fellowmen may not have to sacrifice themselves for want of the courage or ability to argue their views in public.

LGK, a previous administrator of a well known forum, is more than qualified to give a solid assessment of the achievements of Asiawind. The high ideals to which SL Lee has held all forumites to has contributed in no small measure to the success of the forum. Keep up the good work!

I thank you for your comments, but would stress here the success of Asiawind Forum is the effort of the responsible members here who wrote investigative and probing posts of journalistic and scholarly quality.

Time and time again when detractors assailed Asiawind with their nefarious activities, the other participants came forth in full support, and as you can see we are growing from strength to strength to become one of the best forums in the internet.

But the danger here is with success we may also be inundated with fringe elements, the bigot and zealots venting their personal political agenda of hate and belligerence. It is on this concern that our Admin under Prof. S. L. Lee (Host) raises the standard and set guidelines on the quality of debate and discussion and to prevent this Forum from being a lobby of pressure or sectarian groups promulgating their violent and hateful vituperation against countries or personalities.

We saw in recent periods a number of persons banned for undesirable conducts and ethics, and this vigilance will prevail in the end to forge forth a Forum that promotes harmony and peace among the nations of the World.

Most importantly, this Forum is the culmination of all the participants here.

But we owe this fine Forum to the vision of one man and his dreams of a world of knowledge and harmony, even in diversity.

To Professor S.L. Lee we say a big "Thank You!"

The goals of Asiawind.com forum to promote better understanding and harmony is obviously a noble one. ..... If the U.S. news media had the same noble goal as Asiawind.com, the American people could more correctly understand China and the Chinese people.

Asiawind.com can set itself up as a role model for US news media.

I think Asiawind can serve as an example for it's tolerance of differences in opinions. It has a generous threshold for abuses and its administrators only step in when arguments get out of hand and become a personality slugfests. Asiawind allows debators to work out their own exits and I must say almost 100% do. A big thanks to all those responsible for Asiawind.

From what I have read, I cannot possibly imagine any subject that AsiaWind has placed on some blacklist. I think I have read every opinion imaginable on these pages.

Welcome to this oasis of free speech! It's the hottest spot in cybertown for informed debate about issues relating to China, in the English language. Thanks to the foresight of SL Lee! And of course, thanks to the many forumites who continue to come back to express their ideas despite being bashed repeatedly, like the good sports that they are. You can tell many here are of editorial quality, some are most likely administrators of other forums popping in to help out incognito.

This forum has a far greater influence than most here imagine, and therefore, they should pardon our occasional reminders to keep within the bounds of civility in rebutting the ideas of those they disagree with. We debate to convince others of the validity of our ideas, not to alienate them from the truth due to our callous insensitivity. Sun Zi teaches us that it is more important to defeat the enmity of the opponent than the opponent himself.

I think it is a "HEALTHY SIGN" that the administrators of this board is practicing "tolerance and openness" in engaging forumites here with concerns about the restrictions of this forum. It means that they are just as human as we are and that is important in an intelligent and construction community as Asiawind. Let's give them all a great big applause. After all, they did not have to put with the likes of us...

I don't know about you Guys, but, they have my vote of confidence anyway, honest!

Dear SL Lee,

Thanks for that desiderata. I have visited this site many times and I do hope that the atmosphere of objective and factual discussion is maintained. Thank you for the direction that you've set out above as it is the only path to true wisdom.

History is constantly changing, and facts only serves to make a man intelligent. Objectivity and continual learning makes him wise.

I am sure that's been said before by one more eloquent than I.

As a newbie-pleb, and as a student (always learning) thanks for a great introduction. May it continue to be upheld as well as enforced.

Without the protection of this ideal, this site may slowly degenerate into a posting site as well as a cruel toy for some half-savvy internet goon.

The list seems to have some dedicated people who seem to have a wealth of information to share. I look forward to learning through objectivity.

Thanks for your comments. It's heartening to see that this site promotes intelligent discussion and is attempting to maintain that priceless crucible. I think Arthur Miller would be proud.

But we must be thankful to Prof. S. L. Lee for doing a wonderful yeoman's job. Without him Asiawind Forum would not be what it is today. My respect for him is profound.

Today you see the effusive spirit and contributions from many scholarly members. Asiawind is the best forum in the internet from the many forums that I went to. It has class, and it has scholarship! Above all, it has a wide readership!
