Firstly, this is the first time that we've seen a Chinese aircraft with a vertical S-duct (ie. serpentine duct) stealth design. In contrast, the J-20 and J-31 stealth fighters both have a horizontal S-duct design. Secondly, the Tian Yi 2 is also the first Chinese aircraft with flat nozzles for stealth in both the radar and infrared spectrums.

Summary of Gaofen-4 satellite's importance

Gaofen-4 is in geostationary orbit. It is 22,500 miles above the Earth.

Currently, the rest of China's satellites (except for some Beidou GPS satellites) are in LEO (ie. low earth orbit). The Chinese LEO satellites are 100 to 1,000 miles above the Earth. An anti-satellite missile can quickly destroy an LEO satellite.

A geostationary satellite changes everything.

The Gaofen-4 will allow China to target an aircraft carrier before the satellite itself is destroyed. From China to the South China Sea, it is only about 1,000 miles. From China to the United States, an ICBM only has to travel about 7,500 miles. The time needed for China to destroy an aircraft carrier or airburst an ICBM is only a fraction of the time needed for a missile to travel 22,500 miles to reach a geostationary satellite.

1. Gaofen-4 allows China to precisely locate carriers and provide targeting information to China's ASBMs, ASCMs, glide-bombs, and heavyweight torpedoes.

Gaofen-4 will remain operational until carriers are destroyed. The distance to the Gaofen-4 is 22,500 miles. This means Gaofen-4's destruction will come too late. Gaofen-4 would already have provided all of the necessary targeting data to the Chinese weapon systems.

Gaofen-4 is unlikely to be destroyed. The destruction of Gaofen-4 class satellites will render China blind. If China loses the ability to detect American ICBM and SLBM launches then China is much more likely to launch its own strategic thermonuclear weapons before they are destroyed in a surprise attack.

2. A Gaofen-4 satellite over the United States will allow China to monitor the destruction of American cities. Since Chinese ICBMs and SLBMs only have to travel 7,500 miles to their targets, all Chinese ICBM and SLBM MIRV warheads will impact before a geostationary Gaofen-4 class satellite is destroyed.

This will allow China to maximize its destruction of American cities. After a city has been destroyed, thermonuclear warheads already in the air will be re-targeted. Chinese ICBMs and SLBMs that haven't launched will be reprogrammed with new undamaged targets.

Gaofen-4 dramatically increases China's military capabilities. Gaofen-4 gives China the ability to target all American carriers. Equally important, a Gaofen-4 over North America allows China to gather real-time information to maximize the destruction of American cities.

China will likely launch more Gaofen-4 class satellites in the future over Asia and North America for redundancy. It is also possible that China may try to install thrusters on the Gaofen-4 to provide it with evasive capabilities when necessary (to improve its survivability). Finally, China may also build stealth Gaofen-4 satellites.

The impact of Gaofen-4 class satellites cannot be overstated. It provides China with a huge leap in military capability.

Previously, only China's most-advanced Type 052D carried the deadly YJ-18, which has a range of 290 nautical miles (or over 300 statute miles). However, the Type 052D ship can be detected by drone, aircraft, satellite, hydrophone, and passive sonar.

The Type 093G nuclear attack submarine fixes all of the deficiencies of the Type 052D Chinese Aegis ship. A drone, aircraft, or satellite cannot see underwater. In comparison to a naval capital ship like the Type 052D, the Type 093G SSN is very quiet and difficult to detect with a hydrophone or passive sonar.

The US Harpoon anti-ship missile is subsonic and only has a range of 67 nautical miles. The Chinese YJ-18 ASCM can fly almost five times further than the US Harpoon. The Chinese YJ-18 ASCM has additional superiority in having a terminal Mach 3 flight stage. Finally, the Chinese YJ-18 has a maneuverable warhead that engages in S-shaped evasion before impact.

Deagel says that each Type 093G SSN is equipped with up to 24 VLS (ie. vertical launch system) tubes. Deagel and Global Security state the YJ-18 ASM (ie. anti-ship missile) with a maneuverable warhead and a terminal Mach 3 speed can be carried in each VLS.

The prospect of 3 Type 093G SSNs carrying a total of 72 YJ-18 ASMs is quite terrifying. A coordinated strike with salvos of YJ-18s should frighten naval capital ships.

It takes decades to develop the technology to miniaturize a thermonuclear warhead to create the advanced W-88, which has a yield of 475 kilotons.

Only two nations have the W-88. The United States and China (with verified seismic data). By the way, the US never proved the Chinese W-88 was due to espionage. Without proof, we can only conclude the Chinese W-88 was convergent engineering. The Chinese seismic test was "similar," but not identical to the American W-88. Since the seismic data was not exactly the same, it strongly hints at a slightly different design.

In a 1999 New York Times article, it was reported that American scientists in 1995 examined the seismic data for Chinese thermonuclear tests and concluded China possessed a thermonuclear warhead similar to the American W-88.

However, that leaves open the question of the exact date of the Chinese W-88 test.

In the following citations from CBS News and China Matters, the date of the Chinese W-88 test is revealed to be in 1992. Also, according to China Matters, the yield of the Chinese W-88 was comparable to the American W-88.

China has three famous missiles.

The Chinese DF-21D "Carrier-Killer" ASBM has a range of 1,000 miles.

The Chinese YJ-18 "Aegis-Killer" ASCM has a terminal Mach 3 speed and a maneuverable warhead. The range of the YJ-18 is 290 nautical miles (or 334 statute miles).

The Chinese DF-26 "Guam Express" ASBM has a range of 2,000 miles. The Chinese announcer said the DF-26 ASBM can hit medium-sized ships or Aegis-class destroyers.

A question that is often raised is whether a Chinese ASBM warhead can hit a slow-moving 30-knot aircraft carrier or destroyer. I think the answer is an easy "YES." China has proven that its missile warhead technology can hit a fast-moving 22,000-miles-per-hour satellite. In the 2007 anti-satellite test, China hit a satellite target that was 4 feet in length and width. A carrier is 1,000 feet long. It'll be a piece of cake.

China refers to its sensor fuzed weapon (SFW) as a TSA (ie. terminal sensing ammunition). A SFW/TSA is extremely devastating. The SFW/TSA can be launched from an aircraft, by missile, or from a howitzer. It drops parachutes containing discs of copper. When activated, the shaped charge compresses and heats the spinning copper plate. This creates a jet of super-heated plasma traveling at 5,000 meters per second. It penetrates a vehicle from above.

After penetrating a vehicle, the plasma cuts through other material (e.g. occupants and equipment). The plasma cools, fractures, and ricochets inside the vehicle to kill and destroy whatever wasn't directly killed by the plasma jet.

In the BIAM (ie. Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials) article published on October 20, 1998, it mentions the properties of China's DD6 nickel-based single-crystal superalloy.

"DD6 alloy is the second generation SC superalloy containing 2wt.% Re and provides an approximate 30 C improved creep strength relative to first generation DD3 alloy. At present, This alloy has been selected as HP turbine blades in an advanced aero-engine. The directionally solidified Ni3Al base alloy IC6 containing about 85vol.% Gamma' phase has been recently developed in BIAM for engine blades and vanes operating in the temperature range of 1000-1150C. The cost of the alloy is only 40% of PWA1422 and density reduce 7%. The 8 sets turbine vanes (-400 pieces) were produced by this alloy and completed 42h flying test."
